It was recently announced that the current season of "Revenge" will be its final one. The news was a big upset especially to long-term fans who have been following where Emily's vendetta would take her since day one.

But this was not very much of a shocker to most of the show's fans. There has been great buzz suggesting the show's impending end and the speculations mounted after the death of one of the show's main leads, Victoria, played by Madeleine Stowe.

Deadline says that ABC took time before it made the announcement, taking into account a new show titled "The Kingmakers," which echoes the mythology of "Revenge." It follows an individual in her 20s leaving behind her true self for a new one in order to avenge the death of a loved one.

And lastly, the ratings of the series has been going downhill and is no longer as much of a hit as it previously was when it was first released in 2011. Despite this though, fans will be getting a proper send away for the mystery series.

"We can officially tell our fans that this will be the end of the story. We've been talking to the network and we all just wanted to make sure that we felt very confident," executive producer Sunil Nayar told Entertainment Weekly. "Now that everybody has seen the finale — which is fabulous — everybody understands that as much as we all adore the show, it has hit exactly the mark it needed to end. This is the series finale of Revenge that will be airing in a couple weeks."

The cast of the series has also expressed their say on the cancellation of the show via Twitter. Emily Van Camp is first to acknowledge the news.

"Four unbelievable years with the most incredible cast and crew. Could not be more grateful for the experience," the actress tweeted. In another tweet, she said, "Huge thank you and mad love to all of our devoted #Revenge fans over the years! You will never know how much it's meant to all of us."

Barry Sloane said, "Proud to have been a part of such a great show and to have been surrounded by such wonderful people" while Gabriel Mann simply bid farewell by tweeting "#GoodbyeRevenge."

The series finale will air on May 10.
