Mary and Francis continue the battle for legacy in this week's episode of "Reign" season 3 but the predicted turn of events suggest that the two of them need more than each other to be able to succeed in their new undertaking. This will lead them straight to an unlikely ally for help.

In the episode, which is very aptly called "Extreme Measures," Mary must figure out a way to cover up the deteriorating health of Francis now that King Antoine is back in Court. This is the only way they would be able to keep the throne.

Unfortunately, the Queen of Scotland doesn't have all the time in the world and in this "Reign" season 3, she will be pushed to race against the clock and make a move sooner than later. This desperation and pressure drive her to enlist the services of the last person she will ever hope of helping her.

In the promo for the upcoming installment, Francis himself makes an effort to show to the outside that he is in top form. He does this by engaging in a sword fight with one of the three men who confronted him about rumors of his looming demise.

As already revealed before, Francis will not escape his eventual death in "Reign" although there was no info provided on how soon he will bite the dust. Some reports say "Extreme Measures" will be the episode that will deliver that.

While fans of Francis try to wrap their head around what's going on and what could eventually happen to the character in this season, it is also as stressful thinking what will become of Mary when her husband passes as she herself has a throng of problems to face.

It remains to be seen if Mary and her mysterious ally will be able to make Francis look like he is in tip top condition and even if they do, there's still the question of how long it could go on. "Reign" season 3 episode 3 "Extreme Measures" on Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
