PS4 Slim: Leaked photos surface, release date rumored for E3 2015

PS 3 Slim, predecessor of the PS 4 Slim Sony

Sony's game console seems to be ready for a trim. From the looks of the alleged PS4 Slim shown in the new batch of leaked images, the tech company is planning to release a thin version of the PS4, which, for the record, is already thinner than the Xbox One. However, media outlets are divided with this one. Some are skeptical of the images, which allegedly came from Multiplayer.it. The images depict the PS4 Slim as a polished, streamlined device with its buttons relocated.

Pocket Lint, for one, doubts the authenticity of the images and the makings of the device itself. The site argues that as small as Sony's current-gen console already is, the PS4 already overheats when put inside an AV cabinet. With a much less diminutive machine, the site said that potential cooling problems may easily arise as it wonders where the vents and fans would go with such slim structure.

Meanwhile, some do not discount the possibility. Sony has rendered two slimmer versions of the PS3 and it is likely that it will do the same for the PS4. However, if that proves true, Stuff TV believes that it will take time for it to come out. The PS4 console was released only in November 2013 and Sony usually releases newer versions a few years after the original was introduced. Conversely, the site also points out the crucial tweaks and changes that should be implemented in the anatomy of the console should it go for a thinner build.

Unfortunately, the images do not give any clue on what specs the alleged PS4 Slim will bring to the table other than its codename, "Monolith." The said name is written on the bottom part of the photos. However, if the device really does exist, fans might know what it is all about come June 16, as rumors suggest that the new device will be unveiled by the tech company during the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
