Obsidian Entertainment, developer of the award-winning role-playing game "Pillars of Eternity" recently released a new trailer that teased the gameplay of "Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire," the sequel to "Pillars of Eternity". The sequel is a result of a crowd funding campaign last January in Fig.

"Pursue a rogue god over land and sea in the sequel to the multi-award-winning RPG Pillars of Eternity," read the game's official description. "Captain your ship on a dangerous voyage of discovery across the vast unexplored archipelago region of the Deadfire."

"Bend the world to your will, as you explore the depths of infinite possibilities, including detailed character customization, total freedom of exploration, and more meaningful choices at every turn."

Although the trailer is short, it already shows great promise on what players should expect with the release of the game. It also shows a more interactive gameplay, with more pirate ships, detailed landscapes, bigger monsters, new lore, and more. However, the game is still in its early stages of development.

The upcoming game is a direct sequel to "Pillars of Eternity," meaning the actions done by players in the first game will influence the gameplay and storyline in the sequel. In the follow-up game, players will again take the role of The Watcher, where he must traverse the unexplored archipelago of Deadfire to confront the god Eothas and seek answers.

The success of "Pillars of Eternity" is what influenced Obsidian Entertainment to do another iteration of the game, using the crowd funding platform Fig to garner funds. Originally, Obsidian only aimed to raise $1.1 million, but because of the game's popularity, the developers ended up with $4.4 million.

Thanks to fans' massive support, Obsidian promised to deliver a high-performance sequel to "Pillars of Eternity" with expanded gameplay features and more in-depth relationships with other characters.

Although there is still no final release date, "Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire" is expected to hit shelves this coming 2018.
