Phoenix Suns trade rumors: Team to trade Isaiah Thomas over Goran Dragic

Goran Dragic of the Phoenix Suns is no doubt one of the most pursued players in the market should the team be interested in making a trade. However it looks like the Suns want to release another player instead of Dragic, Isaiah Thomas.

The Suns have a good chance of advancing to the NBA playoffs and apparently management is looking at possibilities of potential trades, particularly the ones that could be offered in exchange for their guards.

However all that could change a bit since there have been already a lot of teams who have expressed interest in Dragic such as the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers.

As far as Thomas is concerned, such could be another matter. Thomas was acquired on Jul. 12, 2014 in a sign and trade deal with the Sacramento Kings for Alex Oriakhi.

Thomas had his moment with the Kings and showed semblances of that with the Suns. However, Thomas has been on and off the court due to injuries but has nevertheless delivered when the need arises.

However the move does become a bit trickier if the Suns stick to their preference of trading Thomas over Dragic.

One scenario if Thomas would be traded is that Dragic could leave to check the free agency once the season ends. If they trade Thomas and Dragic leaves, that would mean that the Suns would have only one guard left in Eric Bledsoe.

The scenario could be different if the Suns were among the favorites to make it all the way to the NBA Finals which could of course sway Dragic's decision.

But despite the current standing of the Suns (29-25), which is eighth if the playoffs were to start today, that possibility would be a bit cloudy and over ambitious.

There will surely be takers for Thomas if he is offered in the market so placing preference on him over Dragic seems a bit off when one thinks about long-term.
