The Philadelphia 76ers had hoped for an improved season with a lineup that seemed to make sense. Nerlens Noel was certainly showing promise from last season and then the team had the opportunity to snag prospected top pick Jahlil Okafor.
Unfortunately, things seemed to have gotten from bad to worse with the ball club yet to win a game for the ongoing 2015—16 National Basketball Association (NBA) season.
Last season, the Sixers only managed to win 18 games which could be something the team can easily break. But to do that, they better start winning.
Right now, the team is making headlines due to a different kind of achievement which no team probably wants to have — most defeats.
The Sixers recently tied the NBA record for consecutive losses, falling to their 26th loss to the Boston Celtics (84–80). The skid is carried over from last season with the Sixers so far dropping its 16th of the season with no wins to show.
The 26th loss matches the record set by two prior teams — the 2013–14 Sixers and the 2010–11 Cleveland Cavaliers. This also places the team two losses short of breaking the 0–18 start set by the New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets in 2009–10.
And at the rate they are going, it seems that they are well on their way of doing so. They will next face the Houston Rockets and then the Memphis Grizzlies, two of the touted power teams in the Western Conference, before getting perhaps a realistic chance of snagging their first win over a spiraling Los Angeles Lakers quintet.
For the record, the last time the Sixers actually tasted victory was last Mar. 25, a 99–85 win over the Denver Nuggets.
Could the sweet taste of triumph come soon for the Sixers? The best bet is probably next week against the Lakers and losing that opportunity yet again may cement their tag as the NBA's worst performing team to date.
