OnePlus 2 release date, specs and features: Handset to don USB Type-C port

Since last week, phone manufacturer OnePlus has been giving out bits of information about the robust specifications of its upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 2.

Last time, the China-based company revealed that the device will house an improved version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor. Now, OnePlus has revealed that its new offering will make use of a USB Type-C port, a reversible connector that allows users to plug it in on either direction and still enjoy the same (or more) amount of transfer power for video, audio and other files as well as juice up markedly faster. With this technology incorporated on the OnePlus 2, all sorts of files can be transferred at impressive speeds that bump up to 10 Gbps, which speaks volumes about the flagship's formidable package.

The inclusion of the feature is no surprise. Lately, manufacturers have been very keen on furnishing their handsets with the new and improved port, which is the new fad in the evolving field of USB connectivity. Future flagships are expected to take advantage of this development as well.

The OnePlus 2's use of the port is its maker's way of showing that it wants "to lead the way in power connectivity." Last week, when the company revealed the power source of the device, it put an emphasis on its efforts to make the device the flagship killer.

However, its selection of processor, which is currently in hot water due to reported overheating issues, earned doubts about the OnePlus 2's performance. In turn, the company advises users to "wait and see" before making conclusions or opinions about the upcoming smartphone. OnePlus underlined the fact that it will be using version 2.1 of Qualcomm's latest processor. Clocked at 1.8 GHz instead of 2.0 GHz, the Chinese tech company promises "cooler temperatures" for the OnePlus 2.

The device is set to be unveiled in July.
