NVIDIA GTX 1070 release date, specs: Pascal-based GPU is faster than Titan X

The GTX 1070 is another new video card from NVIDIA that is designed around the Pascal architecture. It is slightly lower in specs, as well as its price. However, it is still faster than the company's Titan X.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 is the best option for gamers and virtual reality enthusiasts who want to have a Pascal-based GPU but are on a tight budget. It is reasonably priced at US$379.

The company describes the new GPU as, "Take on today's most challenging, graphics-intensive games without missing a beat. The GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card delivers the incredible speed and power of NVIDIA Pascal<sup>™—the most advanced GPU ever created. This is the ultimate gaming platform. #GameReady."

For its technical specification, it contains 8GB GDDRD5 RAM, 1,920 CUDA cores, a base clock of 1,506 MHz and boosted clock of 1,683 MHz. It also offers 256-bit memory interface width and 256 GBps bandwidth. It also uses the 16nm FinFet manufacturing process.

It supports multi-projection, DirectX 12, G-Sync, Vulkan API and Open GL. It is ready for VR, NVIDIA Ansel, NVIDIA SLI,and NVIDIA GameStream. It can also accommodate a wide array of display connectors such as DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b. Dual Link-DVI, HDCP 2.2 and can offer a maximum resolution of 7680 x 4320 @60 Hz. An ample power supply is needed for the GTX 1070 since it requires 150 W of power, plus an 8-pin supplementary power connector.

According to a previous report by VideoCardz, the GTX 1070 offers a better performance against the top-tier in Maxwell architecture, GTX TITAN X. On a 3DMark FireStrike bench test, the card gave the scores of 17557 in Performance, 8327 in Extreme and 4078 in Ultra. The GTX Titan X gave 17396, 7989, and 3862, respectively.

The new GTX 1070 was made available on June 10 for US$379.
