Nokia Lumia 1030 release date and specs: Microsoft's most powerful handset yet?

In what is being groomed as one of Microsoft's most powerful devices to date, the Nokia Lumia 1030 is seemingly showing a lot of promise. The successor of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is believed to be Microsoft's ticket towards competing with leading smartphones in the market to date which makes it something interesting to monitor.

Like its predecessor, the obvious marketing angle for the Lumia 1030 is the camera it will come with. To recall, the Lumia 1020 came with a pretty impressive 41 MP shooter and this time around, that megapixel power will be jacked up to a whopping 50MP.

The high resolution camera could be part of Micrsoft's plans to feature its Microsoft 3D technology which could very well gain the interest of folks looking at alternative phones.

So could the Nokia 1030 possibly compete with the best devices in the market by way of its high spec camera? It certainly will be up there. However it would also depend on how smoothly it can run on Microsoft's patented Windows 10 OS.

Aside from the 50MP camera, the Nokia Lumia 1030 will reportedly also come with a 5.8-inch quad HD display (1440x2560 resolution), a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC and 32GB of internal storage.

With a high-resolution camera, it remains to be seen if 32GB would be enough. Thankfully it also come with provisions for expanding its storage capacity through the microSD slot which can be expanded up to 128GB.

Further specs that the Nokia Lumia 1030 will come with include a 2MP front-facing camera and 2GB of RAM, and a 2000 mAh battery. All of these mentioned specs will be amply encased in a reported full metal case.

It was initially believed that the Nokia Lumia 1030 would come out during the Mobile World Congress 2015. And as you would guess, it never showed.

Another rumor suggests that the Nokia Lumia 1030 could come out by the second quarter of 2015 so let us see if that one holds up.
