The Nintendo Switch, formerly known as the NX, may have a brand new 3D Mario game as a launch title if the latest reports about the console are to be believed.

Tech insider Emily Rogers, who has proven to be credible following her accurate claims about the Nintendo console, is suggesting that "Legends of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" might not be the launch title for the device.

"I wouldn't be surprised is 3D Mario ends up being a day one launch title for Switch instead of Zelda. That's all I'll say on that," Rogers teased on Twitter while she remaining coy about it too.

"That's not to say that Zelda won't/can't be a launch window title. But 3D Mario was much further along in development than anyone thinks," the insider went on to say.

Rogers added that her claim is not mere speculation as it is actually the buzz floating around for three to four months now, and she emphasized that the 3D Mario game is "practically finished."

"Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" was supposed to be released this year for the Wii U only but was ultimately delayed when Nintendo decided to bring it to the Nintendo Switch as well.

This had many believing that it will be a launch title for the console, not only for the company's willingness to delay it, but also a game as big as a new "Legend of Zelda" installment will be much more appropriate for the debut of their next-generation console.

In terms of gameplay for the 3D Mario game, Rogers said that it will feature more exploration than "Super Mario 3D World" and "Super Mario Galaxy," although she was not sure about a new hub world being added to the purported Nintendo Switch launch title.

A glimpse of the game is expected to be showcased in the Nintendo Switch event in January. As for the console itself, Rogers also said that the Nintendo Switch will do well in the first months of its release.

"The first 6-8 months of Switch's launch is very impressive. Completely blows away Wii U's first year," she tweeted.

The Nintendo Switch will be released in March 2017.
