Nexus 7 2016 rumors: Tablet to give Google I/O event a miss

The revelation of the Nexus 7 2016 was one of the things that fans waited for during the keynote at the Google I/O event. They were a bit disappointed when it did not show up. The confectionery name for Android N was not revealed as well.

The Google I/O event ihappened from May 18 to 20. The rumor mill was working double time for the device right before the event and many believed that it would be announced. However, since the upcoming Android operating system isn't ready yet, so is the device.

There are several speculations surrounding the specification of the device. Several are mentioning that the resurrected 7-inch tablet will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, paired with a 4GB RAM and will offer a QHD screen resolution.

The Nexus line is known for not incorporating a microSD slot but this time, it will allow up to 200GB or 2TB of storage expansion. It was also mentioned that three variants will be released with different internal storage capacity, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.

In a previous report, it was also mentioned that the tablet could possibly be equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip, 8GB RAM and the NVIDIA Tegra X1 GPU.

Another set of rumored specs includes a Snapdragon 820 SoC chip with 4GB RAM and Force Touch- and a 3D touch-capable display.

However, given the level of the rumored technical specifications of the phone, the highly speculated Nexus 7 2016 may not be able to reach its expected price point. The success reached by the original Nexus 7 back in 2013 was because of its affordability accompanied with decent specs.

Google might set a reveal date between September and October to launch the alleged device. This may also be the right time when Android N is polished and ready to shine as well.
