New York Knicks trade rumors 2018: Willy Hernangomez gaining interest from other teams

New York Knicks second-year center Willy Hernangomez is reportedly gaining interest from other team's executives for a possible trade.

According to sources, the Knicks have entertained more inquiries for the 23-year-old Spanish player than any other one on their roster for the upcoming off-season trade.

The New York team, however, are reportedly not very much interested about trading their favorite center. After all, NY Knicks President Steve Mills had to lobby to draft him in the second round in 2015, after noticing his potential when playing alongside Kristaps Porzingis.

The Knicks would much rather give up Kyle O'Quinn, who will most likely opt out of his contract anyway. However, sources say there is very mild interest for the 27-year-old center, as other teams see him as a back-up piece.

Of course, the Knicks' position could still change, if they could get a prime talent in return. Reports say the teams that have shown the most interest are also those that have been high on European players in the past, although no concrete offer has been made as of press time.

Hernangomez has been barely seen throughout the season, where he has so far appeared only in 17 out of the possible 39 games. In the past 19 games, he has been seen in the court only four times. Other teams' executives are hoping a move will give the young player the playtime he deserves.

After a great run as a rookie, he is currently at an average of just 9.7 minutes per game, playing merely as a third option to Enes Kanter and O'Quinn. The more games he sits out of, the more his trade value would decline. The Knicks have to do something about it, or they would not get much out of the trade either.

Fans have until Feb. 8 to find out whether Hernangomez is going elsewhere, and at what cost.
