Netflix Bollywood project unveiled: 'Love per Square Foot' to be released in 2018

Netflix has unveiled its first Bollywood film project titled "Love per Square Foot." The romantic comedy will be the first Indian film to be produced exclusively for streaming.

"Love per Square Foot" follows the story of a young couple, played by Vicky Kaushal and debutant actress Angira Dhar, who enter a marriage of convenience in order to buy a flat in Mumbai. Kaushal is known for starring in the critically acclaimed 2015 romantic drama "Masaan."

They are joined by a host of veteran supporting cast, such actresses Ratna Pathak and Supriya Pathak and actor Raghuvir Yadav, who stars in the comedy "Newton," his eighth Bollywood entry to the Oscars.

"We're always looking for stories that bring joy to Netflix members, and 'Love per Square Foot' is a gem that we're proud to have on the service," said Netflix founder and CEO Reed Hastings in an official announcement.

The upcoming movie is co-produced by the newly-launched RSVP banner led by media veteran Ronnie Screwvala. Internationally, he is best known as the founder of the UTV group, which the Walt Disney Company acquired in 2012.

"RSVP is a visionary partner, and we want to continue working with them and the best of Bollywood to deliver compelling stories to consumers around the world," Hastings added.

Of this huge step to on-demand viewing, Screwvala said, "How, where and when great stories are watched is changing every day. Our younger audiences choose their mediums." He added that they at RSVP "love to disrupt and innovate in this space and this is a first of its kind for South Asia."

"Love per Square Foot" will mark the directorial debut for stage personality Anand Tiwari. It will be co-produced by Still and Still Pictures and is slated for a worldwide release in 2018.

Bollywood fans can also expect more Indian offerings from the subscription platform, as it is reportedly working on the spy thriller "Bard of Blood" and its first Indian original series "Sacred Games."

Even now, Netflix has a good collection of Bollywood offerings that fans can enjoy.
