Looking at the list of star guards the NBA has to offer, most people will agree that two of the big names are Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Though there will surely be a debate on who is the better player of the two, it seems that both players are practically even on both counts. So with that in mind, could a wacky trade involving the two make sense?
This is of course nothing more than pure rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt. Such a thought came up prior to the DeAndre Jordan-Chris Paul issue, all of which has been settled after both players had a heart-to-heart talk that led to Jordan staying put in Los Angeles.
Paul was singled out as one of the reasons why Jordan left at that time, which was seemingly a bit too hard on Jordan and was taken in an entirely erroneous way.
On the part of Irving, there is no beef that will indicate that Dan Gilbert or Daniel Griffin wll even think of trading away their prized guard at this point. Irving has no issues with the team or other stars like Lebron James and Kevin Love.
So it seems that this crazy idea was simply put up as nothing more than a purely"what if?" scenario.
The Clippers could entertain it but only if they have a grave misunderstanding with Paul. But other than that, it seems improbable for the Clippers to let go of Paul, even if the issue with Jordan is serious.
Paul is a witty guard whom any team would certainly flourish well with, and coach Doc Rivers and owner Steve Ballmer know that all to well. A swap between the guards could occur only with a reason. Right now, there is nothing even near that.
