NBA rumors: DeMarre Carroll says Hawks became complacent

DeMarre Carroll is expected to be another big name when NBA Free Agency comes around but before all that, he gives his take on the season of the Hawks which came to an abrupt end.

After sitting pretty at the top of the Eastern Conference standings, the Hawks got swept by the Lebron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals. Though such was not surprising to many, the Hawks still had a superb season overall despite not being favorites prior to the season.

What happened to the Hawks against the Cavs?

Carroll points out that the team took out their feet on the gas pedal which somehow indicates that the Hawks may have been complacent or overwhelmed at their achievement. The fact is the Hawks celebrated a bit too early and may have forgotten that they were a step away from the NBA Finals.

He points out that had the Hawks remained focused, they would have given the Cavs a better run for their money.

On free agency, Carroll is leaving his options open though he considered Atlanta as being a large part of his life. As far as his future goes, he says that he will leave the task to his agent (Mark Bartelstein) to handle the process.

Undoubtedly, Carroll has proven his worth and such has gained the interest from several teams. The Lakers are said to be interested in Carroll though such has yet to prosper. Things may change by July when free agency kicks off.

But as far as jumping off the Hawks bandwagon, it would be foolish for him and other players on the Hawks fold to leave the team right now.

After (over)achieving, he and other players like Paul Millsap may want to stick around for another run.

Money will play a factor but the Hawks can likely offer that. A short-term deal perhaps? Probably to see if the Hawks can repeat that marvelous run next season.
