As their search for a suitable big man continues, rumor has it that the Cleveland Cavaliers are seriously considering Robert Sacre of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Apparently the desperate interest comes in the light of losing Anderson Varejao for the remainder of the season. And after the Lakers' acquisition of Tarik Black, Sacre could be someone they can pry out from the floundering Lakers who have thus far been tumbling despite having Kobe Bryant in the lineup.
Some days back, the Cavs were also eyeing other potential big men. That includes Kosta Koufos of the Memphis Grizzlies and Timofey Mozgov of the Denver Nuggets. The thing is neither the Grizzlies or the Nuggets seem to be interested in trading away these big men which means the Cavaliers' search for some help up front continues. If not Sacre, the Cavs could make a go for Jordan Hill. While Hill has been getting a whole lot more than minutes than Sacre, it may require them to offer something that would interest the Lakers. And at this stage and as the NBA nears the trade deadline, the Cavs may need to move fast.
The Cavs haven't exactly been the team that many had expected, no thanks to injuries to players. Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and the latest of which is Lebron James have been bitten by the injury bug, compounding the woes of the Cavs and placing first year coach David Blatt in a spot.
While Sacre isn't exactly one of the phenomenal big men that the Cavs can get right now, it seems that the Laker center is the only clear option they have at this point. They could look into free agency for some names, just like Andrew Bynum to whom the Cavs are reportedly willing to gamble.
