"NBA 2K16" is not yet official but an image leak is suggesting that game company 2K Sports is well on its way to bringing the title out. The latest iteration of the all-time favorite basketball simulation is already being developed, and it looks like Oscar-nominated filmmaker and full-fledged Knicks fan Spike Lee is helping out in bringing it to life.

Leaked promo images for the game credits the critically-acclaimed filmmaker, in the same manner that Jay-Z was credited as celebrity executive producer for "NBA 2K13."

Rumors about Lee's involvement in the game started when New York Post reported that back in March, the prominent Knicks fan was "in San Francisco working on an NBA video-game project." This is where 2K Games and its in-house sports studio called Visual Concepts are located. His love for the sport has led him to direct films delving into basketball such as the 1998 film "He Got Game," which stars Ray Allen.

Also, the marketing materials that were leaked confirms that three basketball players will be gracing the cover of the upcoming game, namely MVP Award frontrunners Stephen Curry of Golden State and James Harden of Houston, and reigning NBA MVP Kevin Durant, who plays for Oklahoma City.

As many fans know, the covers for "NBA 2K14" and "2K15" only featured one player: LeBron James for the former and Durant for the latter. The last time 2K Sports launched multiple covers was back when "2K13" was released, with Derrick Rose, Durant, and Blake Griffith. "2K12" covers had Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

There is still no word from 2K Sports but media outlets believe that "NBA 2K16" will be released in October, the same month its predecessors were released. The studio is expected to officially announce the new title next month.
