For all intents and purposes, there is no reason for Los Angeles Clippers star forward Blake Griffin to leave his team, seeing that he is pretty much well taken care of. However, all that could change depending on how close he is to a former general manager who is currently serving the Portland Trailblazers.
The general manager in mention is no other than Neil Olshey who once served as the GM of the Los Angeles Clippers. Actually he was the one who initially said that Griffin would only be a Clipper, presumably throughout his career. But those words were mentioned when he was with the team.
So the relationship that Olshey has with Griffin is now up in the air. How close are they? Would that relationship have a bearing in possibly prying out Griffin from the clutches of the Clippers?
Everyone knows by now that the Blazers could very well be shaking up things as they stand to lose several key players. Among the names who may be jumping ship are LaMarcus Aldridge, Arron Afflalo and Nicolas Batum. However of these players, the attention is certainly on Aldridge.
San Antonio, who ironically was the team that the Clippers bumped off in this year's NBA playoffs, seem to be the team that is targeting Aldridge. But to do that, they have to dislodge some players with fat salaries.
The Clippers are sure to be interested in Aldridge as well but would they move at the expense of parting with the slam dunking Griffin?
There is no reason to believe that the Clippers would be open to trading Griffin. If ever there would be plans then that could be maybe in a couple of years though that seems to be close to nil.
As far as Aldridge's current state, being an unrestricted free agent makes a trade improbable. The case would however be different if he is convinced to re-sign with the Blazers and then traded if the Clippers would bite.
That move would be lucrative for Aldridge since it could allow him to earn roughly $31.2 million annually. That move is a long shot though it is not far from happening. Would the Clippers be willing to bite in a sign-and-trade?
Even if that were the case, it seems improbable but then again you never know.
