NBA 2015 news: Greg Monroe shoots down New York Knicks news transfer rumors

It is a fact that Greg Monroe of the Detroit Pistons will be one of the big names once free agency comes around. And while that is a fact, reports of him moving to the Knicks are not.

Monroe shot down reports that he is bound for the New York Knicks, something that Frank Isola of the New York Daily News had reported last Saturday, April 11, 2015.

Monroe, who is in his fifth season with the Pistons says that unless there is another Greg Monroe in the NBA right now, he doesn't know anything about the matter. Monroe stressed that he has not agreed to anything.

The Knicks are one of many teams who have expressed interest in Monroe after the current NBA regular season. Aside from the Knicks, Monroe is said to be also in the radar of the Philadelphia 76ers and the San Antonio Spurs.

Then there is of course that possibility of Monroe sticking it out with the Detroit Pistons which may all depend on how president of basketball operations Stan Van Gundy restructures a reasonable offer for the slotman. Van Gundy did vouch however that they want to keep Monroe in the mix.

Monroe passed on restricted free agency this season and signed a $5.479 million one-year qualifying offer. After this season however, it will be a different scenario since he will be an unrestricted free agent.

Monroe is looking for a contract that will keep him secure for the next couple of years. The Pistons could give him that but so will other teams. Will money play a factor?

All these are questions in the air and apparently Monroe doesn't want to think about it right now. He admits the stress of even the thought of his upcoming free agency so don't be surprised if Monroe keeps mum on his plans, at least until the current season comes to a close.
