'Mortal Kombat X' character updates: Kung Lao pounds Scorpion in new screenshot

Now that Kung Lao has joined the incomplete roster of combatants for "Mortal Kombat X," NetherRealms found it only proper to give fans a glimpse of the fighter in action. The upcoming game's co-creator and ardent spoiler spreader Ed Boon has shared a photo of the Shaolin monk warrior about to doggedly trounce an almost-helpless Scorpion in immaculate quality or, as Boon put it, "to pound the KRAP out of Scorpion."

The Shaolin monk with a hat for an unmistakable trademark was introduced through a magazine called Games Master in its issue released on Jan. 2. He became the latest character to be defaced in the whole of the roster. However, there are some boxes that remain empty for NetherRealms to fill as the game production progresses. Meanwhile, the game studio wants everyone to turn their attention to Kung Lao and his spruce yet totally intimidating-looking gear.

PlayStation Life reminded everyone that it is only one of three stylistic variations Kung Lao can morph into. Like other "Mortal Kombat X" fighters previously included in the lineup, Kung Lao has three gameplay styles that make his hat perilous on different, intimidating levels. These are known as Tempest, Buzz Saw and Hat Trick.

Tempest makes Kung Lao's hat a shield as he combats opponents with more spinning attacks. In Buzz Saw, players can get the same hat dangerously razor-sharp. One can imagine what this can do to the enemy in the field. Lastly, Hat Trick makes the headgear function as a boomerang with a twist. Kung Lao can throw it and summon it back anytime he wants while it extends combos to opponents.

Kung Lao will join Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Goro, Quan Chi, Kano, and Raiden in the much-awaited fighting game. Unfamiliar faces to grace the title include Cassie Cage, Kotal Kahn, Ferra Torr, and D'Vorah.

"Mortal Kombat X" is scheduled to land on the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on April 14.
