Ahead of its rumored presentation at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, gaming industry bigwig Electronic Arts has already confirmed a next installment for its "Mirror's Edge" title.
According to a post in the game's official website, the next installment is the culmination of at least a year's worth of development, with the original announcement made almost two years ago. It was first announced at the E3 event in 2013, and made a brief appearance in last year's convention.
Sara Jansson, senior producer to the project installment, wrote, "Two years ago we revealed that we were making a new Mirror's Edge. Last year, we gave you a behind the scenes look into some of the early progress we had made. And though we haven't said much else in all that time, we have been listening. Thank you for your incredible passion and your patience."
Jansson went on to add that more details will be made available in the upcoming E3 event this June.
"I'm excited to tell you that it's paid off — by this time next week, you will have finally seen more of the game at E3."
Since no more details were provided other than the confirmation announcement, it is expected that the game will offer the same gameplay and design that were used in the original title. Electronic Arts and developer DICE promised other details about the upcoming game in the future. Since the title has made appearances in previous E3 events, it is also expected that Electronic Arts' E3 presentation this year will include full details about the next installment, such as a sneak peek into the current development.
As with any other game announcements, the confirmation also sparked rumors about the upcoming game, especially fan speculations on the release date. According to some observers, the next "Mirror's Edge" game could come out in the first quarter of 2016. Although it is not yet confirmed that the game will make a 2016 launch, Electronic Arts is known to make confirmation of projects at least six to eight months earlier than their target release dates.
