Microsoft crushes 'Minecraft 2' rumors

After buying the popular "Minecraft" game for $2.5 billion, Microsoft reveals that it has no plans to make a sequel to the number one building game.

Apparently, critics are pestering the company about the idea of releasing a second "Minecraft" installment. But Microsoft's Xbox Boss Phil Spencer thinks that it is unnecessary to release a sequel for the game.  His remark that no sequel is in the works would perhaps settle the issue and calm avid "Minecraft" fans.

"I don't know if Minecraft 2, if that's the thing that makes the most sense. The community around Minecraft is as strong as any community out there, and I think we need to meet the needs and the desires of what the community has before we get permission to go off and do something else," he said in IGN's podcast via PC Gamer.

The big price Microsoft paid when they bought the game includes the large community playing the game, and the company, of course, wants to keep that loyal "Minecraft" community happy.

Meanwhile, reports state that a refreshed version of "Minecraft" is in the works and will feature improved visual as well as new skins. The visuals of the game will reportedly be updated to support a Full HD resolution. This is due to the advent of screens with 1080p resolution and to make the game visually attractive. Moreover, the refreshed version will feature a world that is 36 times bigger than the previous version.

Software giant Microsoft confirmed that the new and improved "Minecraft" will head to various platforms – PC, PS4, and Xbox One. However, fans can expect that the company will prioritize the launch of PC and Xbox versions.

Reports also add that the Xbox One edition of the game will include some sample worlds inspired by "Halo," "Mass Effect" and "Skyrim." Moreover, players who have played "Minecraft" before in PS3 and Xbox 360 will be able to import the worlds they created to the new version.
