'Minecraft' characters include Beano's Dennis, Gnasher and Walter for PC version

Dennis the Menace, his beloved doggy Gnasher, and his mortal enemy Walter are now included in the PC version of "Minecraft." The well-loved characters straight from the U.K. comic strip found a new digital platform after Beano publisher D.C. Thomson collaborated with "Minecraft's" Canadian developer Frima Studios to create an official "mod" for the highly popular sandbox video game.

The new mod will replace "Minecraft's" default characters and items with Beano's beloved characters, including Dennis' prank tools like rotten tomatoes, catapults, as well as stink bombs. "Minecraft" players can enjoy playing different scenarios with the Beano characters, such as using all of Dennis' iconic pranks against Walter like unleashing stink bombs, or treating Gnasher with a sausage.

"The Beano has always been about great storytelling, imagination and creativity. Minecraft is a perfect match for us, providing an amazing sandbox for kids to take our characters, tell their own stories, prank their friends and build out Beanotown," shared D.C. Thomson exec Mark Cotton. "We'd love to expand the pranks and incorporate other Beano characters."

Cotton went on to explain why they decided to work with "Minecraft," saying, "If you talk to any 7 to 11-year-old kid Minecraft is pretty much their biggest passion and love."

The Beano exec also said that the company recognizes the fact that more kids these days are more inclined to using anything digital, that is why they are willing to adjust to bring Dennis and his pals to their target audience. He also reported that another popular "Dennis the Menace" character Minnie the Minx may also be included in the "Minecraft" mod in the future.

Beano's "Dennis the Menace" is different from the U.S.-based comic strip with the same title, which was created by Hank Ketcham.

The new "Dennis the Menace" mod can be seen in a Minecraft-centric YouTube account under the name ChooChoosGaming.
