Microsoft Surface Phone release date rumors: Company readying next Windows phone for 2017 launch?

Rumors about the Microsoft Surface Phone have been swirling for a time already with no solid evidence that one does exist.

Back in January, fans got excited when it was accidentally discovered that "surfacephone.com" belongs to the tech company, which directs its visitors to the Surface products webpage.

So far, nothing is still concrete, but fans are speculating that by the first half of next year, the Surface phone will be unveiled.

Hardware wise, the Microsoft Surface Phone is expected to be enclosed in an all-metal body, similar to the other members of the Surface family. Inside, the latest rumors suggest that a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor will be used, with different combination or variants of RAM and internal storage: 3GB RAM with 32GB space, 6GB RAM with 128GB storage and an 8GB RAM with 500GB space, Mobipicker reported.

It was earlier rumored to be coming with an Intel processor, but the company has pulled out from producing processors for mobile devices.

Trusted Reviews added that the phone will arrive with a 5.7-inch display that could possibly offer a QHD resolution. It will reportedly be equipped with a 21MP main camera that is said to feature a Carl Zeiss PureView lens. Additionally, a USB Type-C port is expected to arrive with the device since the Lumia 950 already came out with the port late last year. A flip cover with a built-in keyboard is also said to be with the device, along with a headphone jack.

Surprisingly the phone will not come cheap, and it is estimated to be between US$900 to US$1,1000, according to rumors.

Microsoft has said before that they are committed to Windows 10 Mobile; however, it was also mentioned during the company's developers conference that it is not their focus this year. Fans are now speculating that 2017 may be the year, as this is also the time that Windows 10 Redstone 2 will be complete and ready to roll out.

For now, fans wanting to take a glimpse of the Surface Phone will have to wait for a little bit longer than initially expected.
