Memphis Grizzlies NBA news, rumors 2015: Center Marc Gasol to stay on for 5-year $100m deal

Marc Gasol is expected to remain in Memphis, though there is no official word yet on how long and how much the Spanish player will be offered. Regardless, Gasol is expected to sign on the dotted line.

As of this writing, both sides are reportedly finalizing details of Gasol's contract. According to rumors, Gasol will be given a contract worth more than $100 million spread over five years.

Gasol has played his entire career in Memphis and could have tested the free agent market to see what other teams would be able to give him.

Unlike LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan, Gasol was not among the free agents who did much touring, presumably because he has no reason to leave Memphis.

Though the Grizzlies have regularly come short of the playoffs, the team does have other stars like Zach Randolph, Mike Conley and Brandan Wright to compliment the 7-foot-1 center who entered the league as the 48th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.

His individual accomplishments in the NBA include being named the 2013 NBA Defensive Player of the year and being named twice to the NBA All Stars.

The younger brother of Chicago Bulls' Pau Gasol drew interest from teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs.

Though Gasol never really showed much interest in jumping to another team, the only team which will perhaps have a chance of luring Gasol out of Memphis is the San Antonio Spurs, which presumably offers a chance to win an NBA championship.

With Gasol's stay practically in the bag, the Grizzlies may want to load up on their snipers to make life easier for the Spaniard inside the shaded area. Spacing is a must, so don't be surprised if offensive-minded players like J.R. Smith or even Jamaal Crawford end up as possible additions later on.
