The strong-willed U.S. Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni) faces more and more problems each week as "Madam Secretary" heads toward the upcoming season 3 finale this month.

Last week, in episode 20, Elizabeth's policy adviser, Jay Whitman (Sebastian Arcelus), was abducted by a group of terrorists in Nice, France, when he was meeting with a Russian forensic accountant. While the U.S. government vehemently refused to release any ransom money in exchange of Jay's return, Elizabeth, together with her team, did everything in their power to get Jay back. Before the episode ended, he was able to return home unharmed.

Next week, Elizabeth is set to face yet another hostage crisis. In "Madam Secretary" season 3 episode 21 titled "The Seventh Floor," Elizabeth and her team will try to "secure the release of an American journalist held hostage in the Sudan," according to the official synopsis released by CBS.

While this synopsis might not give out as many details as fans would want, CarterMatt.com says that this episode may help viewers understand the predicament of journalists, especially when put in serious life-threatening conditions. Most of them seem to be underappreciated despite the lengths they go through to deliver quality news because of the few reporters who do not do their job properly, resulting in people generalizing the entire journalism community.

In other news, viewers will see Elizabeth and President Conrad Dalton (Keith Carradine) flying to Rome for the G20 conference in episode 22 titled "Revelation." However, during this time, she will be bringing excess baggage with her as she worries that her husband, Henry (Tim Daly), will be put in harm's way when he is sent to Israel to stop the bio-weapon of the Doomsday Cult before it is deployed.

"Madam Secretary" season 3 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS.
