MacBook Air 2016 rumors: No major specs update expected

One of the products Apple is expected to unveil next month is the MacBook Air 2016. The Cupertino-based tech giant will be making some design tweaks for the latest iteration of the lightweight laptop.

Unlike its counterpart, the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air was updated yearly by Apple. This means the changes that were done on the latter may not be as huge as the ones in the Pro version.

Not much is known about Apple's upgrade plans for the laptop, but according to Bloomberg, the MacBook Air 2016 will come with a multi-functional USB-C port. Other than that, the laptop update is largely a mystery.

There's no mention of the laptop getting the same organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display bar that the MacBook Pro 2016, which is expected to be released alongside the MacBook Air 2016, is getting.

Internally referred to as the Dynamic Front Row by Apple, this digital display bar will replace the physical function keys on the keyboard and display controls and functions specific to apps in use in the laptop.

The Dynamic Function Row is only associated with the MacBook Pro 2016, suggesting that the MacBook Air 2016 may not be getting the said feature.

As usual, two versions of the MacBook Air 2016 are expected to be released — one with an 11-inch display and another with a 13-inch screen.

It is unclear if the MacBook Air 2016 will come with the AMD RX 400 graphics cards, although the upcoming MacBook Pro is expected to come with a Polaris 11 graphics processing unit (GPU), one of the two video cards released by AMD recently.

It remains to be seen if the same processor brand will go under the hood of the MacBook Air 2016. After all, even the iMac 2016, which is also expected to arrive next month with the two MacBooks, will come with the more powerful Polaris 10.

In the past, it was rumored that the MacBook Air will be made a lower-end laptop offering by Apple. Such reports were not confirmed since there is no available information about the MacBook Air 2016's hardware.

It is, however, rumored to be powered by the Intel Skylake processor.
