Lupita Nyong'o news: To come out with children's book in 2019

Academy award winning actress Lupita Nyong'o has just recently published a children's book titled "Sulwe." The book makes it Nyong'o's debut publication. The news was announced on her Instagram page, wherein she revealed the projected release date for "Sulwe," as well as a brief synopsis of the upcoming children's book.

As reported by the New York Times, the word "Sulwe" directly translates to star in Nyong'o's native language. The children's book is about a five-year old girl who is currently unnamed, who hails from Kenya -- which is also where the "12 Years a Slave" actress is from. The young protagonist is also described as very close to her mother, to whom she looks up to for sage advice, and a unique perspective of seeing the true wonders that the world has to offer.

Like most people, the protagonist in "Sulwe" starts out with a child-like innocence, but eventually becomes wary of other people's opinions and thoughts about her as she grows older. This is mainly brought on by the fact that the protagonist has a lighter-skinned sister, and is more often complimented on her lighter complexion. This narrative is very similar to what Nyong'o discussed in the past, wherein she shared her insecurites about being dark-skinned.

In the actress' Instagram post, she shared that the protagonist's journey involves "lessons that we learn as children and spend our lives unlearning." Nyong'o hopes that the story would resonate with both children and adults, as it tackles some very universal topics about being content with oneself, no matter what skin color or race. She also stated that the book will arrive in January of 2019.

Some of Nyong'o's accomplishments include winning an Oscar award for best supporting actress in the film "12 Years a Slave." The Kenyan actress is also known for her role in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," and has a pivotal role in the upcoming "Black Panther" movie by Marvel.
