'Longmire' season 5 spoilers, release date: Netflix series planned for 10 seasons?

Fans are closing in on the second month of Netflix's deafening silence about a "Longmire" season 5 renewal. Even after the campaign of the show's die-hard fanbase, the streaming giant remains tight-lipped about the fate of everyone's favorite sheriff.

As Carter Matt reminds, fans who want answers about the renewal of the series can contact Netflix via Facebook or Twitter, although getting one isn't always guaranteed. Right now, the company's silence is understood as its effort to look at every side of things to make sure a renewal is truly in order.

But if a newly unearthed statement from executive producer John Coveny is anything to go by, "Longmire" season 5 is not just a possibility. It will also not serve as the show's final season as some rumors claim it to be.

"We threw a lot of knives in the air in Season 3, and we've caught a lot of them in Season 4. When we pitched the series to Netflix, they talked about how long we want to keep the show going," Coveny said via Renew Cancel TV.

"Realistically, we have Seasons 8, 9 and 10 in our heads; it's a rich world, and we're just beginning to scratch the surface of it," he went on to say. It is important to note though that this statement was made before season 4 of the series dropped on Netflix.

This means that this can still change and Netflix will likely base its decision on how the previous season performed. This is likely what the streaming giant, which picked up the series after A&E axed it last year, is mulling over.

According to Gospel Herald, Coveny and his team should have at least provided an outline of the show if they have really thought about such long run. How this will work for Netflix and the show could also be what Netflix is trying to figure out right now.
