LG V30 release date, rumors: Flagship to ditch LG smartphones' signature ticker feature?

The LG V20 was just released last month, but the LG V30 is already making the headlines. The third-generation LG V series flagship is not getting the ticker that its predecessors had, according to reliable mobile tipster Evan Blass. Instead, LG is looking to replace it with something else.

The insider took to Twitter to reveal that he has early renders of the LG V30 with the ticker nowhere to be seen, urging Blass to bid "adieu" the feature.

He clarified that while the LG V30 is not getting the ticker treatment, it will not be "ditching the secondary display" as some understood of his tweet.

"The ticker is a secondary display. But not all secondary displays would be characterized as tickers," Blass tweeted, suggesting that LG has something else cooked up in place of the ticker.

From the looks of it, the LG V30 is still getting a secondary display, but a different one. Blass is yet to provide details on that though. He has not released the renders yet, assuming he plans to do so.

One of the signature features of the LG V series smartphones is the ticker, which is a little over than 2.1 inches in length that allows users to check push notifications, time and weather without having to wake up the primary display panel.

It caters to quick access to some applications or contacts frequently used while it saves battery life that will otherwise be decreased when users check notifications or the time by unlocking the smartphone altogether.

Additionally, it also shuts down automatically when users put the LG V10 or LG V20 inside their pockets. With it being ditched in LG V30, it looks like LG is looking to outdo itself.

The fact that Blass already has early renders of the LG V30 suggests that it is in active development even though its predecessor was just released in the second week of October.
