It looks like the LG G4 is not ready to don a metal body just yet. If reports from Korea prove accurate, the flagship from LG will stick with a plastic exterior. This will make the device the only flagship that has yet to make a move to metal.
Although the South Korea-based manufacturer is considering new CNC or Computer Precision Control production methods, the LG G4 will have to pass in order to follow its predetermined launch. LG reportedly has its plans to have its future devices caked with metal but it won't make it in time for the LG G4's release.
Moreover, GSM Arena pointed out that switching to the said CNC equipment is strenuous, not to mention the fact that it is nowhere near cheap. So it is very improbable that the LG G4 will come dressed in metal or in polycarbonate.
In any case, having a plastic covering is not too bad. With the LG G4 making use of it, the battery will be removable and a microSD card slot will be easily integrated, thus allowing the expansion of the storage capacity of the device. LG's other product, the G Flex 2, has also proven that plastic has its perks, such as self-healing technology. This would also work perfectly for the upcoming flagship, which would be able to compensate the not-so sophisticated choice of exterior with one that resists scratches and dents.
Some suggested that LG may bring the production to a standstill to make way for the backside change. However, it seems very unlikely. Fortunately, despite a metal-less LG G4, the tech giant reportedly has its plans in releasing a metal-clad device in the form of the purported LG G4 Note. The device remains to be on the unfounded side of things, but if it actually exists, it can face high-grade products like Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 and Apple's iPhone 6 Plus head on.
