Jane Villanueva vows to keep her virginity until her wedding night. But all that vanished in the doctor's office when the doctor mistakenly inseminated her, thus getting her pregnant.
The CW introduced Gina Rodriguez to its audience in its new offering, "Jane the Virgin," which premiered on Monday, and implores them to join her unique story with a dose of drama, a pint of romance, and comedy all over.
Chapter 2 will show the aftermath and beyond. Jane tries to convince herself that what's happening is not a dream (or a nightmare). Jane's mother, Xiomara (Andrea Navedo) is as troubled as Jane about her unexpected pregnancy leading her to pressure her daughter to sue the careless doctor that caused the chaos.
Imagine another burgeoning chaos in the upcoming episode. The fact that Jane was inseminated with sperm belonging to her teenage crush Rafael (Justin Baldoni) gets Jane's fiancé, Michael (Brett Dier) worried. But Jane constantly running into the biological father of her baby finally leads Michael to make an alliance with Petra (Yael Grobglas), Rafael's wife. To top it all off, Xiomara has no plans on having Jane meet her father Rogelio (Jaime Camil), despite the man's request, and it will likely stay that way for a while.
The CW claims that "'Jane the Virgin' took in 1.63 million viewers, up 22 percent from its lead-in, 'The Originals,'" as noted by Cinemablend.
Cartermatt remarked that "the show has a hokey name, and that and the concept (a woman who gets accidentally inseminated) are two things that could scare some viewers away." Nevertheless, The CW hopes to build an audience for "Jane the Virgin," comparable to that of "The Flash" which the network premiered last week.
The new series was loosely adapted from Venezuelan telenovela "Juana la Virgen".
Chapter 2 of "Jane the Virgin" will be aired on Oct. 20.
