Apple's 9.7-inch iPad Pro was finally presented a few days ago and fans can't help but compare it with its big brother. The two models have more differences on the inside than on the outside and it is not just the amount of memory.
The 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros do have the same dual-core 64-bit processor and co-processor, the A9X and M9. However, the smaller Pro tablet contains an A9X with lower clock speed than the bigger one. Nevertheless, as one commenter on a MacRumors report said, it is not noticeable in the real world.
The smaller one also has a slower graphics. The primary reason is heat dissipation, as the report stated.
TechCrunch reported that the smaller tablet houses 2GB of RAM compared to 4GB on the bigger one and this greatly affects the performance level, especially when doing multitasking and when multiple Safari tabs are open. Matthew Panzarino, a boss on TechCrunch, was able to get his hands on a review unit of the new iPad Pro and was able to perform a GeekBench test. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro gives a 3022 score for a single-core test and 5107 score for mullti-core test. The 12.9-inch version gives a score of 3224 for single-core and 5466 for multi-core.

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro boasts the latest display technology, True Tone. This is a process where sensors try to adjust the white balance of the screen to counteract the ambient lighting. The result is that the screen emits a more natural and accurate representation of the color. The display screen is also brighter and less reflective than a similarly sized tablet, the iPad Air 2.
The camera is also better on the smaller one. It houses a 12MP iSight camera for the main and a 5MP on the front, while the older has an 8MP iSight camera on the back and 1.2MP on the front. However, there is a camera bump on the 9.7-inch tablet and the big one has none.
When it comes to battery consumption, the Cupertino-based tech giant stated that both iPad Pro tablets have a battery life of 10 hours for Web browsing and 9 hours on the LTE mode. The new tablet has a 27.5-watt-hour battery while the older tablet sports a 38.5-watt-hour battery, as 9To5Mac reported.
The 9.7-inch iPad Pro comes in silver, space gray, gold and rose gold metallic finish. Pricing starts at US$599 for the 32GB Wi-Fi model while it is US$729 for the 32GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model. Pre-orders will start on March 24 on Apple.com while Apple retail stores in the U.S. and select countries will start taking orders on March 31.
