Apple has just released its newest platform, iOS 9. Although the newest version promises to give better performance and speed for Apple mobile devices, there are also downsides to upgrading immediately.
Older Apple devices like the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 have been reported to suffer performance issues and lags when they are upgraded from iOS 7 immediately to iOS 9. However, the devices that need to be downgraded cannot roll back to iOS 7 again since support for the version has already been discontinued by Apple. They can only downgrade to iOS 8.4.1.
Meanwhile, others who are fans of jailbreak versions but have already tried the new platform also need to downgrade from iOS 9 as there are no jailbreaks for the newest iOS at the moment.
Fans who want to downgrade from iOS 9 need not worry, though, as the process is convenient and simple. However, as with any steps involving information, Apple advises to back up data first, just in case.
To downgrade from iOS 9 to iOS 8 via iTunes, the device should be placed in DFU mode by connecting it to PC, switching it off, and then simultaneously holding both the power and home buttons for about 10 seconds. After that, users must release the power button while still holding down the home button, waiting for iTunes to recognize the device and placing it in recovery mode. When the device is recognized, iTunes will then give options to either restore or update, and users can click on restore to start downloading iOS 8.4.1.
While downgrading via iTunes is time consuming, a much simpler way to downgrade is to manually download the iOS 8.4.1 ipsw file, and then manually checking update and selecting the ipsw file from the iTunes window. In this method, users should first disable the Find My Phone feature from the iCloud settings.
