To sweep India off its feet, Samsung made its charmer flagship, the Galaxy S6, available in the country. On the other hand, HTC's attempt to capture the massive market will involve the release of not one but a whole new lineup of handsets.

The Taiwanese manufacturer is set to launch the HTC One M9 Plus as well as the One E9 Plus in India, with the hopes of giving the rival Samsung flagship a run for its money. The former will be available to India as early as May.

"The M9 Plus will be available in India for Rs 52,500. It will be available next month," HTC President of Global Sales and Chief Financial Officer Chia-Lin Chang said. "We are close to our target of 7 per cent sales volumes in India and expect to reach 10 per cent by end of this year."

The HTC One M9 Plus, which is a bigger variant of the company's 2015 smartphone flagship that won't be released in India, costs Rs 2600 more than the Galaxy S6, which is priced at Rs 49,900 ($800).

With a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, the HTC One M9 Plus is comparably bigger than its Samsung rival. This may be the deal-breaker and HTC, in part, presumably relies on that. Furthermore, the device is a redoubtable package, which includes 32 GB of expandable space and 3 GB of RAM.

Power and performance comes from the tandem of MediaTek Helio X10 processor and 2840 mAh battery. It also has a hefty 20.7-megapixel rear-facing shooter to boast as well as a fingerprint sensor that its standard counterpart does not have.

For users in India who have their eye on a bigger device, the HTC One E9 Plus will be the handset to get. The 5.5-inch device with Quad HD display uses an octa-core MediaTek MT6795M processor, 2,800 mAh battery and a 3GB RAM/3GB combo to power up its 20-megapixel back camera and more.

The HTC One E9 Plus along with the HTC Desire 326 G will be available in India in the latter half of May. HTC also plans to release "more 4G smartphones which are likely to be priced below Rs 20,000" as well as new wearables to the country.
