HTC One M7 and HTC One M8 to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update within 90 days

 Twitter

HTC revealed yesterday via its social media account that the company will start rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its flagship smartphones within 90 days.  In HTC's Twitter account, the tech company posted:

"We have the Android Lollipop code. We'll be updating the HTC One (M8) & (M7) within 90 days from today. #HTCAdvantage"

The company offers an HTC Customer Advantage program that vows to provide all HTC customers in the United States who own any of the latest HTC products — including the HTC One (M8), HTC One (E8), HTC One (M7), HTC One max, HTC One mini and HTC One Remix —  the latest software updates once the company receives the update code from Google.

Now that HTC made the confirmation that they already have the final code of the operating system update, it means that those who own the device are expected to have the new OS between today until February 4, 2015.

However, some HTC users may not immediately see the operating system update in their phones until the network carriers receive their Android 5.0 Lollipop. Until then, HTC smartphone users will still have to wait until the update is already up and running.

Meanwhile, Tech Radar reported that all the other HTC smartphones that were released last year or earlier will also receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update soon. It could mean that the HTC Desire Eye, which was also released recently, will be one of the first devices to get the update after the One M7 and One M8.

Elsewhere, a leak mentioned that the One Mini 2 and Desire 816 will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop sometime in March or April, 2015, while earlier devices like the One Max, One Mini, as well as Butterfly S have an expected Android 5.0 rollout sometime in March to May next year.

Aside from HTC, Sony and Motorola also declared that they will be rolling out their Android 5.0 Lollipop updates very soon.
