HP Spectre specs: The thinnest laptop in the world unveiled

Hewlett Packard has just unveiled the world's thinnest laptop, the HP Spectre.  The aluminum chassis of this portable computer is as thin as an AAA-size battery.

In its latest press release, HP boasts its latest 13.3-inch laptop masterpiece, whose CNC machined aluminum body measures only 10.4 mm high. The company did not sacrifice its performance to lessen its size, however -- it houses either a powerful Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, a full HD display and a Bang & Olufsen speaker system.

The American tech giant collaborated with Tord Boontje and Jess Hannah, two world-renowned  designers, to work on the HP Spectre.

"The HP Spectre is the thinnest notebook in the world, and unlike the majority of other super thin PCs on the market, this laptop doesn't compromise power or features," Kevin Frost, HP's vice president and general manager, said. "A beautiful Full HD edge-to-edge display, Intel Core i processors coupled with Bang & Olufsen sound and a sexy and thin design, HP's amazing engineers set a new standard with the all-new Spectre."

The thinnest laptop also includes a carbon fiber bottom that helps in achieving a weight of 2.45 pounds or 1.11 kilos. It has a hinge-less design courtesy of an original hidden piston hinge, as well as a newly developed hybrid battery that can deliver up to 9.5 hours of use.

In addition to these, both 6th-generation Intel Core processors can be paired with up to 8GB of RAM and with up to 512GB of super-fast PCIE SSD storage. The heat generated by this primary component is cooled by the Intel hyperbaric cooling system, thus the thinnest body ever.   Plus, a Corning Gorilla glass protects the edge-to edge display, while the high-end speakers are matched with HP's Audio Boost technology.

The goodies do not end there. Overall, users will be able to enjoy three USB Type-CTM ports, and all of them are Thunderbolt ready.

Starting April 25, the HP Spectre will be available for pre-order from HP.com and Best Buy's website, and it will start at US$1,169.99. Best Buy stores will start to offer it on May 22 from US$1,249.99.
