How to get free Windows 10 update in 2018?

The Windows 10 free upgrade is still available for those in need of assistive technologies, despite Microsoft's earlier warning that it will be unavailable by the end of 2017.

In early November, Microsoft revealed that it will be ending its free Windows 10 update for consumers still using Windows 7 and 8.1 and are requiring the use of assistive technologies -- like the magnification of text on-screen and having the text read aloud by a narrator. These features are specifically made for people with impaired hearing or sight.

As earlier reported, this features gave even those who did not actually need such technologies the chance to download the free Windows 10 update, as Microsoft never put a verification process in the system.

Back then, the tech giant made a countdown, saying, "If you use assistive technologies, you can upgrade to Windows 10 at no cost as Microsoft continues our efforts to improve the Windows 10 experience for people who use these technologies. Please take advantage of this offer before it expires on December 31, 2017."

But users found out that this is not the case, at least for now.

Those still hoping to upgrade to the latest Windows, which comes with the Fall Creators Update, can still do so. At first, Microsoft did not give a specific cut-off, but it has recently updated the page to say that the free Windows 10 update will be available only until Jan. 16, 2018. That is just over a week from now, so users should act fast.

Beyond this date, a Windows 10 update will cost $119.

The equally morally dubious route, which allows users to upgrade to Windows 10 with an unused Windows 7 or 8.1 product key, is reportedly still available. Looks like the company is not too keen on closing these loopholes. After all, consumers updating to the latest and best Windows out there is nothing but good news to the company.
