Houston Rockets NBA news, rumors: Patrick Beverly and Corey Brewer retained

The Houston Rockets are not that active in the NBA Free Agent market lately largely because they are placing emphasis on retaining their current players.

Rather than jump into the free agency market, the Rockets have re-signed two vital players for the next couple of years.

Swingman Corey Brewer has reportedly been re-signed to a three-year contract estimated to be worth $23.4 million.

Brewer was acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves last December and became one of the team's key contributors. He averaged 11.5 points in the regular season but jacked up those numbers to 15 per game in the post season.

Patrick Beverly, a missing cog in the NBA playoffs that gave the Rockets a lot of problems at the point guard position, has re-signed for a four-year deal worth $23 million.

Beverly will be guaranteed $18 million for the first three years while the final year of his contract will all depend on the Rockets, who may exercise a team option worth around $5 million.

The defense-minded point guard missed the last 16 games of the regular season and the entire playoffs when he suffered a torn ligament on his left wrist. He was on the wish list of several teams before he finally agreed to return to the Rockets.

Among the teams that showed interest in Beverly are the New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings.

Despite Beverly's re-signing, the Rockets are expected to look for another guard to add to their rotation. Among the free agents that the Rockets are reportedly interested in are former Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin.

Ironically, the Mavericks reportedly have their eye on Lin as well, so it will be interesting to see which Texan team will win in the tug-of-war for Lin, who had a forgettable stint last year with the struggling Los Angeles Lakers.
