'House of Cards' season 5 spoilers: will romance with Leann be too good to be true for Doug?

Michael Kelly as Doug Stamper in "House of Cards" Netflix

It looks like "House of Cards" season 5 will be a big season for Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), who is expected to go toe-to-toe with Leann Harvey (Neve Campbell) next season.

The previous run of the series set up a big clash between the two, and it is expected that the upcoming season will see the culmination of this build-up.

The Hollywood Reporter believes that "House of Cards" season 5 will first see things become romantic between Doug and Leann before it gets all bloody.

Doug has his loyalty on Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) while Leann works for Claire (Robin Wright). Both of them are not expected to destroy the trust of their allies, and instead, they have proven themselves to do whatever it takes to keep that trust.

That being said, a romance between the two in "House of Cards" season 5 will either be too good to be true or will complicate things leading them to cloud their judgment.

There are also reports that "House of Cards" season 5 will see Doug betray Frank for power, which is hard to believe knowing how loyal he has been to him.

But this will make perfect sense and will surely be a shocker if it were to happen, according to actor Mahershala Ali, who, although he will not reprise his role as Remy Danton in the new season, still had some ideas on how Frank will meet his downfall.

"Like maybe at some point because he's the one closest to him, my guess would be Stamper," Ali told The Wrap when asked who will likely bring Frank to his demise.

It is being said that "House of Cards" season 5 could be the show's end. If it is, Leann's loyalty and assistance will be all the more important to Claire, who, as per rumors, plans to take the presidency from Frank, even if it means killing her own husband.

"House of Cards" season 5 will premiere early next year.
