HBO releases the latest teaser for upcoming dark comedy "Barry," giving a deeper look into the hitman who wants to be an actor.
The 100-second clip shows titular character Barry (Bill Hader) apparently suffering from a bit of depression, despite the good money he gets from being a low-rent hitman.
His life coach, Fuches (Stephen Root), suggests he takes a break in sunny Los Angeles, not realizing how this trip will change both their lives.
As Barry follows his next target, an aspiring character, into an acting class, he realizes that he has a far better dream than just to become an assassin -- he wants to be an actor. The desire is so strong, he thinks he has finally found his life's purpose.
He immediately tries out for it, and reads a line from William Shakespeare's "Macbeth," to the dismay of acting coach Cousineau (Henry Winkler).
However, Barry thinks otherwise, and he would tell Fuches so. "The point is, I was really good," he is heard saying in the trailer.
It does not help that he has found a very accepting community at the LA theater scene, who has no idea he has a shady day job.
Fuches would of course remind him about it. "What about what we do together, Barry?" he asks. To this, Barry answers, "Why can't I do both things?"
Despite finding new life in acting, the synopsis says Barry will not be fully able to get away from his criminal past, and will have to learn how to balance both worlds.
"Barry" is HBO's latest attempt at hitting big in the comedy genre, after previous releases "Ballers," "Divorce," "High Maintenance," and "Crashing" failed to make much impact in the past years.
Also starring Sarah Goldberg, Glenn Fleshler, and Anthony Carrigan, "Barry" premieres Sunday, March 25, 10:30 p.m. EDT, on HBO.
