Ever since "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" became official, fans, especially the comic book aficionados, have been curious about which supervillains from the comics will get a cinematic counterpart next, or simply which character will return or step up when the blockbuster hit returns with its sequel.

Director James Gunn hasn't been very specific as to which friends or foes will show up in the highly-anticipated superhero film. While he loves to engage in Q&A with fans, the biggest thing he ever revealed is his desire to add female characters to the mix and the possible appearance of actor Al Pacino. Still, in the newest Q&A Gunn held on Facebook, he crossed out two names in the list of villains likely to cross paths with Star-Lord and his motley crew.

When ask whether the Shi'ar Empire or Kang the Conqueror from the comics will be in the sequel, he said, "Shi'ar and Kang are both owned by Fox. All decisions about who is in GotG2 were made a long time ago."

In the comics, the characters have bumped into the intergalactic superhero pack. However, Kang was always pitted against the Fantastic Four and the Avengers. Should the time-travelling genius make it to the silver screen, it will likely be through FOX's future "X-Men" or "Fantastic Four" films.

Meanwhile, the Shi'ar Empire, the semi-humanoid extra-terrestrials from Planet Aerie that traverse through space with high-grade, cutting-edge technology, were often dealt with by the X-Men. This is why the race would not be seen in the upcoming movie

The Shi'ar Empire and Kang join the ranks of Captain Marvel, Ronan the Accuser, Venom, Nova, Bug and Rom: Spaceknight who won't be making an appearance in the film. On the other hand, Gunn has expressed bringing in his favorite superhero, which fans believe could be Beta Ray Bill, Starhawk, or Adam Warlock.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will be shown in theaters starting May 5, 2017.
