GTA 6 news, rumors: map to build on missing part in 'San Andreas'? release date may land in 2018

GTA V Rockstar Games

There was some disappointment when Rockstar Games decided not to showcase the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise at the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016.

So fans are no closer to knowing when they will be able to play it and are also still in the dark about most of the details, like plot and characters.

And if the latest rumors are to be believed, they still have a very long wait on their hands before they will be able to add the next installment to their collection.

That's because rumors now point to a 2018 release date for the next edition of GTA.  With such a massively popular franchise on their hands, it's no wonder Rockstar want to do each installment justice rather than just rush them out.

There was a wait of nearly a decade between 'GTA III' and 'GTA IV' so there's we no Rockstar is not adverse to making gamers hang around for a long time.

However, a factor in the delay may also be the lawsuit filed against Rockstar by former director, Leslie Benzies, for supposedly withholding his share of the profits from the GTA franchise.

There have been numerous reports of the 'GTA VI' setting moving outside the United States and there has also been a lot of speculation that the main protagonist will be a woman, voiced by Eva Mendez

MNR Daily recently reported that the game could feature Liberty City and that the new location could even be Japan.

One fan, N4bb, thinks the new location might be set in either San Fierro, or Las Venturas.  And it's possible that the missing map in "GTA: San Andreas" will play into the setting next time round if Rockstar decideds to continue it in 'GTA VI'.

Wherever it's set, Rockstar is expected to release 'GTA VI' to PS4 and Xbox One.
