Google Nexus 7 2016 release date, rumors: Search engine giant's next smartphone may be unveiled by May, HTC to create the device

The Google Nexus 7 2016 tablet isn't creating much noise lately. Nobody knows if one really exists, but Nexus fans believe there is one and it might show up at the upcoming Google I/O conference. It is also rumored that HTC was tasked to manufacture the device.

The BitBag has reported that the upcoming 7-inch tablet will be powered by the latest Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon 820 SoC, paired with an 8 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA Tegra X1 for its GPU. The operating system will be Android N, of course the latest from Google.

Allegedly, the upcoming tablet will also have a memory card slot that will be able to provide support for up to 2 TB microSD card for extra storage. The last Nexus phones did not offer this feature.

For the snappers, the rumored tablet will be bringing along a 12 MP main camera and a 5 MP front facing one. A 3,000 mAh battery is also said to coming to the device.

The Mountain View-based tech giant is planning to lure in business professionals to its upcoming tablet, thus focusing more on productivity rather than entertainment.

Additionally, it is highly speculated that the upcoming tablet will also be including a 3D Touch feature.

Ecumenical News added that Google has tasked Taiwanese tech giant HTC to take control of the rumored tablet, which is said to be on its trial stage, and they are reportedly doing some polishing work on what needs to be done.

The Google Nexus 6P was also created by HTC, and the search engine giant was said to be happy with the way things went for its smartphone project, thus it was tasked again to create the next tablet. This was not the first partnership either, it was back in 2010 for Nexus One.

HTC is also believed to be working on the next Nexus smartphones.

The Google I/O Conference will be happening from May 18 to 20 at the Shoreline Ampitheater, Mountain View, California, but there is no official word if a Nexus device will be unveiled during the event.
