'The Good Wife' season 7 spoilers, plot, cast news: Two more guest stars and another character returning

The cast of The Good Wife CBS/ The Good Wife

With former "The Good Wife" star Archie Panjabi aka Kalinda Sharma off to "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" for a guest-starring gig, season 7 of the legal/ political drama prepares for the arrival of new characters and the return of old ones.

For starters, "Jane the Virgin" star Bridget Regan is appearing on the new season of "The Good Wife" as Madeline Smulders, a plaintiff in an estate case. TV Line says that the character will likely be Alicia's client as she was pictured on the set sitting in the office of the former state attorney.

Regan confirmed her participation by tweeting a photo of the script for the season 7 premiere episode, which is titled "Grunts." The photo of her on the set was also posted by series lead star Julianna Margulies on Facebook

The second guest star on the list is Amy Irving from the Chloe Grace Moretz-starrer "Carrie." According to Entertainment Weekly, the actress will play the role of a striking, bohemian-looking renowned photographer who will defend her early photographs and works in court. The publication adds that Irving's character cares more for her "pending retrospective" than what the case actually means to her own family.

Other already announced newcomers in "The Good Wife" season 7 include Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Alex, the "calm, experienced hourly" investigator and Alicia's possible new love interest. Morgan, who also stars in "Extant" with Halle Berry, is a series regular for the season.

Cush Jumbo will recur as a lawyer in the show but there are no details about her character. Also, Margo Martindale will take on the role of a charming yet cunning campaign operative Willa Eastman.

Lastly, the new season will also see Michael J. Fox reprise his role as Louis Canning. There's no word on what the character will be up to next but the goings-on in the previous season and Alicia getting kicked out of her own law firm will allow him to step up more.
