'Girl Meets World' season 4 renewal news: Show renewed for another season this month?

"Girl Meets World" season 4 is still up in the air as the current season of the hit Disney Channel coming-of-age dramedy continues.

Filming for the ongoing season is complete, but a new season is yet to be confirmed. Looking at the history of renewal schedules, season 4 could still very well be on track.

The first season of "Girl Meets World" ended its production around the end of May in 2014 with a new season confirmed by August of that year as well.

The filming for the second season ended October last year, with the third season announced only a month later. The renewal seems to not have anything to do with the ratings since the first season had more viewers than the second one.

Fans are entering the third month since "Girl Meets World" season 3 production wrapped up. If Disney Channel follows a certain schedule in renewing the series, "Girl Meets World" season 4 should be renewed this month.

However, it does not look like Disney Channel has a specific timing it goes by in renewing the series. The ratings also do not help in figuring that out.

As of writing, the third season has an average of 1.8 million viewers, which are much lower than last season's 2.28 million. It is important to note that by the end of season 2, only about 1.7 million viewers tuned in.

There's no word if this will affect the chances of a "Girl Meets World" season 4 renewal, but as of July, Disney is yet to enter discussions on what's next for the series.

At the moment, fans can count on the fact that Disney Channel shows always have a four-year lifespan. There is also the possibility that Freeform could pick up the show.

Freeform, formerly ABC family, was the home of its parent series "Boy Meets World," so fans are hoping "Girl Meets World" season 4 lands there if Disney refuses to continue it.

"Girl Meets World" is currently on hiatus and will be back on Oct. 14 for the special Halloween episode, "Girl Meets World of Terror 3," which imagines a life without Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) and Riley's (Rowan Blanchard) friendship.
