George Clooney news: He once gave out 14 best friends $1M each

A friend of A-list celebrity George Clooney shared that the actor once gave 14 of his best friends over $1 million each.

In an interview with MSNBC's Headliners, entrepreneur Rande Gerber, husband of Cindy Crawford, revealed that back in 2013, Clooney not only gave them $1.3 million each but also paid all their taxes for the year, so that they could use the money on more important things.

The exact date was Sept. 27, 2013, when the "Ocean's 11" actor invited the group, which they call "The Boys," to his house for dinner. Gerber said that when they arrived, there were black suitcases on each of their spots around the table.

Gerber remembers Clooney starting his speech with, "Listen, I want you guys to know how much you've meant to me and how much you mean to me in my life. I came to L.A., I slept on your couch." He continued by saying he is "fortunate" to have them in his life. "I couldn't be where I am today without all of you," he added.

The 56-year-old actor and director then said that he wants to give them back for everything, before asking them to open their suitcases.

Gerber said it contained $1.3 million in $20 bills, to the disbelief of everyone present.

Even Clooney, a multi-Golden Globe and Academy Award winner, has been through hard times. And he said some of the people who helped him are still going through it. He hoped the million dollars could help them and their families.

"One was working at a bar in Texas at the airport, trying just to support his family, rides a bicycle to work every day. I mean these are guys that took care of George and now he's giving it all back," shared Gerber.

Gerber, part-owner of Clooney's Casamigos Tequila company, added that he did not want to take the money, and he told the actor so. But Clooney rebuked that if he does not take it, then none of the boys can have the money as well. Gerber ended up donating the money to charity.

He added that exactly a year later, Sept. 25, 2014, Clooney receives his good karma by marrying Amal, who he now shares twins Alexander and Ella with.
