Floyd Mayweather vs. Gennady Golovkin fight 2015 news: Is bout really possible?

And so the list of possible opponents to face undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. continues to swell.

With a number of popular names already in the mix, Kazakh knockout artist Gennady Golovkin has thrown his name into the mix despite knowing that it may probably go unnoticed.

Well for one, who would want to fight an undefeated fighter (33-0) with most of his wins coming of knockout (30 to be exact)?

But there is a catch though and Mayweather could consider it. Golovkin is willing to drop down to 154 pounds to face the undefeated American. That would mean that Golovkin would have to shed off four to five pounds to do so and the Kazakh boxer sees no problem with that.

Everyone knows of course that Mayweather is likely to face Andre Berto for his Sept. 12 bout, a fight that is not necessarily something fans would die to see. Apparently the setto is meant to give Mayweather an easy time to reach 49-0 and then perhaps take it from there.

Golovkin in 2016? It could be possible if Mayweather would be man enough to take on the undefeated boxer. But the thing is, Golovkin lacks the fanbase to make the fight lucrative. And everyone knows that such is one thing Mayweather considers before he faces off with any opponent (with Berto an exception of course).

Still, anything can happen. But if so, Golovkin may have to get in line.

There are other fighters who want to get a piece of Mayweather as well, led no less by Amir Khan who was the leading boxer believed to face the unbeaten American boxer before the name of Andre Berto (and Karim Mayfield) came up from no less that Floyd himself.

Pacquiao, the Filipino boxer who was outboxed by Mayweather last May, is also a possible opponent. Even though both camps are denying it, money is still a factor and everyone knows how rich both fighters became last May.

Lastly, Mayweather may opt to retire after his Sept. 12 fight, meaning all of these predictions could likely end up nowhere. Hence, it would be best to wait and see what happens after that upcoming bout, particularly Mayweather's announcement on what he plans to do next.
