Floyd Mayweather vs Andre Berto fight 2015: details

After a long wait, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has made it official – he will be fighting Andre Berto on September 12, 2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in what he claims will be his last fight as a professional boxer.

Apparently Mayweather vs Berto was something that didn't come as a surprise. It has been several weeks now since rumors broke out that Berto was the man Mayweather chose to be his alleged last opponent to nail his 49th win which will allow him to equalize the record of Rocky Marciano.

This means as well that Mayweather has ruled out Khan once again, the second time he has done so. Mayweather reasoned out that Khan simply talked to much, criticizing Mayweather despite being told to clam up.

Khan was the frontrunner to possibly face Mayweather, especially when Floyd made it known that he wanted a solid opponent for September 12.

Mayweather remained mum on who he would fight though many believe that it would eventually be Khan. Mayweather pulled a surprise by announcing he is choosing between Berto and Karim Mayfield. Though many though he was kidding around, apparently he was not.

The decision has left many boxing pundits disappointed, expecting a better opponent if indeed was to be Mayweather's last fight. Though he stands pat that it would be his last hurrah, fans and co-boxers are not biting.

It is believed that Berto will be a tune-up opponent and Mayweather will return to the ring in 2016. Though no names have been closely linked, Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan and Gennady Golovkin are once again in the frontline of possible opponents just in case he does fight again next year.

As for his fight with Berto, there was only one minor detail changed – it will not be for free. Apparently it will still be on pay-per-view though it is highly believed that the bout will not generate that much compared to his other fights.
