The indie-made horror point-and-click video game series "Five Nights at Freddy's" is arguably now at the peak of its popularity. The franchise itself is about to receive its latest installment in the form of the spin-off titled "Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location."

However, updates regarding the franchise's alleged movie adaptation are still nowhere to be found, which has led to some fans fearing that it might become a flop if it will be released too late.

After the series' creator — Scott Cawthon —  had previously confirmed that a movie adaptation was indeed in the works, there haven't really been that many updates regarding its progress. The last update that was announced by the creator himself was through a reply he had posted when a fan has inquired about the status of the movie.

"I'll make a news post about this soon. I know a lot of people are curious about what's happening with it!" Cawthon had replied in a Steam Discussion thread started by a user named Carzon64.

Apart from Cawthon himself, the upcoming movie's director Gil Kenan and its writer Tyler Burton Smith have both been keeping mum about the development status of the movie. Some fans are now fearful that the team behind the games may still have a lot on their plates and that it may still be a while until they are fully focused on the movie itself.

Some fans even cited the "Angry Birds" movie as an example of what happens when you release a game-based movie well after its initial hype has already waned. If the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie is released too late, moviegoers might not be that interested to see the film, resulting in a box office flop.

For now, Cawthon and his team are still busy with the upcoming release of "Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location," which is scheduled to come out next week on Monday, Oct. 7.
